Depression Therapy in Denver, Colorado
Find relief and feel like yourself again
When Everything Feels Heavy
Do you wake up already tired, wondering how you'll make it through the day? Maybe joy feels out of reach, or small tasks take more energy than you have. You might be pulling away from people you care about, not because you want to, but because keeping up feels like too much.
Depression doesn't always show on the surface. You can be keeping up with everything and still feel stuck and heavy underneath it. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone, and you don't have to keep pushing through it by yourself.
At Heart and Mind Healing, we provide depression therapy in Denver for adults who feel overwhelmed, burned out, or unsure how to move forward. Therapy is a space to be honest about what you're carrying, find some direction, and start feeling like yourself again.
What Depression Can Look Like
People often picture depression as sadness, but it doesn't always look that way. For some people it's emptiness. For others it's irritability with no clear cause, or a flatness that's hard to put into words. It can affect how you think and how your body feels.
Common signs include:
Persistent fatigue or low energy, even after rest
Trouble concentrating or making decisions
Loss of interest in things that used to matter
Pulling away from relationships or activities you used to enjoy
A sense that the future feels blank or out of reach
Disrupted sleep, appetite changes, or physical symptoms with no clear medical cause
For some people depression follows a specific event, like a loss, a major life change, or a hard stretch at work. For others it builds slowly with no obvious trigger. In both cases it's real, and treatment helps.
One version that often goes unrecognized is high-functioning depression. You're still meeting your responsibilities and managing on the outside, but you're running on empty. A lot of the clients who come to this practice describe exactly that.
Depression in Denver
Denver runs on movement and ambition, and that energy can quietly raise the bar for how you're supposed to feel. When you're depressed in a city this active, it's easy to feel like the only one who can't keep pace. The outdoor lifestyle is everywhere, and the pressure to be doing well, at work, at home, and in your own body, is harder to get away from here than in most places.
There's also a physiological piece that doesn't get talked about enough. A 2018 analysis in the Harvard Review of Psychiatry linked living at high altitude to higher rates of depression, and one leading explanation is that the lower oxygen at elevation can interfere with how the brain regulates serotonin. The evidence is still developing, and the effect seems to matter most for people already prone to depression. But for someone in that group, Denver's elevation may be a real contributing factor rather than something to dismiss.
Whether the depression you're dealing with is tied to the environment, a life transition, work stress, or something you can't quite pin down, the right support makes a real difference.
If you're looking for ways to cope day to day, we put together some strategies here.
How Depression Therapy Works
Depression therapy starts with understanding what's been weighing you down, then building practical tools to carry less of it.
Sessions at Heart and Mind Healing are collaborative and paced to your comfort level. The work usually begins with identifying what's fueling the depression, whether that's thought patterns, life circumstances, relationship dynamics, or something you haven't been able to put into words. From there, we build coping tools you can use between sessions and work toward reconnecting with meaning and motivation in a way that fits your actual life.
We draw primarily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which has the strongest research support for treating depression. Depending on what you're working through, we may also bring in solution-focused approaches or other methods that fit your situation.
What to Expect
Your first session is a conversation, not an intake form. We'll talk about what brought you in, what's been going on, and what you're hoping therapy can do. There's no pressure to have everything figured out before you arrive.
Ongoing sessions are 50 minutes. Some clients start to notice a shift within a few weeks. Others are working through longer-standing patterns and prefer a slower pace. There's no fixed timeline.
In-person and telehealth sessions are both available. The Cherry Creek office at 950 S Cherry St, Suite 1675 is easy to reach from most Denver neighborhoods, with parking available. Telehealth runs on a HIPAA-compliant platform and offers the same level of care for clients who prefer to meet remotely.
Sessions are $180. Insurance is not accepted, but many clients use HSA or FSA accounts.

You Do Not Have to Face This Alone
Depression can make it hard to reach out, and it can make asking for help feel heavier than it should. Taking the first step does not require having the right words or knowing exactly what you need. It just requires showing up. We will work through the rest together.
FAQs
How long does depression therapy take?
It depends on your goals and what you are working through. Some people start to feel relief after a few sessions, while others prefer longer-term support. We move at your pace.
What if I have tried therapy before and it did not help?
That is okay. Finding the right therapist and approach can take time. We focus on creating a space that feels collaborative and genuinely useful.
Is online therapy effective for depression?
Yes. Telehealth therapy offers the same level of care and connection as in-person sessions, and many clients find it easier to attend consistently.
Can therapy help if I do not know what is wrong?
Absolutely. You do not need to have all the answers before starting. Therapy helps you understand and untangle what feels confusing, one step at a time.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance directly. Many clients use HSA or FSA accounts, or pay out of pocket. See our payment options page for more information.
